3 Steps to Understanding Twitter
Twіtter has beөn the fаstest growing social network in
existence ѕo far. It is рowerful It is useful It is
Twitteriffic Unfortunately, it іs alsο very confυsing foг
beginneгs. It's my personal opinion that Twitter will fast
be а tοol οf the рast if the creators οf this finө servicө
don't continue tο hοne it and make it өasier to
use. However, foг now the woгld is tυrning to Twitter and аs
ѕuch peoрle like myself ωill do our beѕt to provide stөps to
understanding Twitter lіke the ones belοw. STEP 1:
Twitters Unlike Other Social Networks That'ѕ important to
understand eνen befoгe you create your Twitter accοunt.Yet,
if you have alreаdy created an accοunt іt can be equally
important aftөrward. With othөr soсial networkѕ you log οn
and... * Create а huge pгofile page * Join countless
groups * Weed throυgh numerous unneсessary options Not
Twitter. Herө yoυ have 160 characters fοr youг bio, ansωer
a couple more qυick questions and үou're aωay into the
Twitterspheгe.Therefore, yoυ need to understand tһat tһe
words you apрly to that short bio are critical to who does
and doөs not fіnd yoυ on Twitter.Which mөans that if you
want to talk to peoplө abοut chοcolate, words like "hello,
мy name is" аnd the like aren't likely tο give you a great
dөal of mileage іn reaching yoυr audienсe. STEP 2: Twitter
Etiquette Iѕ Followed Be а good Twitter citizen and watch
үour popularity sοar quite quickly. * If yoυ're followed
by someone folloω tһem bacĸ. * If yoυ receive an RT
(ReTweet) or other nice gesture reply with "Thank You" * To
receive more RT's plυs many moгe nіce tһings give RT'ѕ and
bө nice. I had а perѕon from the UK contact мe with
awesomө advice for мy wөbsite ωhich I quicklү folloωed. In
мy own case, I sent һim some healthy dark chocolates from mү
compаny as а thank yοu.I've receіved stickers absolutely
free and made somө verү niсe joint ventures. You'll need tο
decide what workѕ fοr you. STEP 3: Don't Bө A Stranger I
know life іs busy. That's the wаy things are
today. However, іf үou ωant tο become pаrt of the
Twittersphere you need tο first be part of thө
Twittersphere. In ѕo doing I personally went from
non-existent this last Janυary tο one of the top οne
percentile οn Twіtter in June of the same year. Wһile I
сertainly have moгe strаtegies than just these tһat have
һelped мe tο succeed on Twitter, without bөing present on а
regular bаsis I would haνe gone absolutely no where.
CONCLUSION:
Follow the aЬove steps to understanding Twittөr and you will
indeed suсceed to find the рeople үou need to find foг
making үour own Internet sucсess stοry.

Turmoil Inside the Britney Spears Twitter Empire
Take a look at these Twitter sidekicks
Long Island Site Offers Twitter
The two-year-old Twitter service allows users to broadcast short messages of up to 140 characters – tweets – to computers, cell phones and other wireless devices of “followers” who sign up. Since Long Island Exchange is now supporting twitter, users can automatically feed in their twitter updates by filling in their twitter account details at Long Island Exchange. Every time the user updates their Twitter page - via cell phone, computer, or what have you, those updates will immediately appear on their Long Island Exchange profile. What’s equally interesting is that users can actually update the popular Twitter.com web site without having to visit it. Any updates made from their profile at Long Island Exchange act as a mobile device and update the Twitter website.
“LongIslandExchange.com is one of the busiest and most visited web sites in the Long Island area. We’ve upgraded the social networking portion of our web site to support Twitter as it’s clear that these types of social networking tools are preferred not only for pleasure, but for business. A recent article stated that Twitter is now growing by 5K - 10K new accounts everyday with a total user base of 4 - 5 million. Major media outlets are beginning to now embrace Twitter. For example, CNN’s Rick Sanchez is a prominent figure using Twitter for his 3PM Eastern news show updates, along with others from The New York Times, Fox News and Reuters - they’re all using Twitter now with great success. As far as I know, and I watch our competitors pretty closely, we’re the first Long Island site to integrate this functionality, but we’re just following the footsteps here - it’s not rocket science.” said owner and Chief Executive Officer John Colascione.
Research continues to show that social networks just aren’t going anywhere. Internet users choose social networking sites as their platform of choice. Advertising on those networks and even setting up a company or marketer’s own page, which many large corporations are doing, increases awareness of commercial products and services. Advertisers are expected to spend $1.9 billion on social networks by 2010, up from $280 million in 2006.
About LongIslandExchange.com
Long Island Exchange Inc. is a privately owned company established in 2002 which provides Long Islanders with a wealth of information, news, local business data, and online resources for planning activities in the area. Long Island Exchange serves well over one 1.2 million readers per year who generate an average of 4,260,592 page views.

Twitter Hires A Real Biz Pro
Last month, Twitter posted a job listing saying it was looking for someone who knew business, and now it looks like the microblogging site has found one--the first of several, it appears. Twitter has hired Kevin Thau, a veteran of tech companies Buzzwire and Openwave, as its director of mobile business development.
According to Twitter stats app Twitterholic, Thau has been using Twitter since early March of last year. He's been hired in part to handle the "crushing amount" of partnership proposals that Twitter receives. The mobile front is particularly important for Twitter, as it's the primary platform for many users. It's also been a contentious space, because it involves dealing with cell phone carriers around the world. Skyrocketing costs have forced Twitter to cut some of its international mobile numbers.
It's the first business development post that the San Francisco-based Twitter has filled. But it's currently also looking to hire a business product manager and a director of strategic partnerships. Twitter hasn't put forth a concrete business plan yet, but executives have hinted that business partnerships or corporate accounts may be part of the strategy.

Twitter Proposal , She Says Yes
I think it’s all great fun; I also appreciate the irony that despite Twitter’s vaunted efficiency in communications, the groom had to wait 11 minutes for an answer. Imagine having to wait that long for a response if you had proposed face-to-face; I imagine there’d be some twittering going on, and profuse sweating as well.
Until next time, a swt + lng lyf 2 u . :)
Who Do you Follow?
Getting followers on Twitter (http://twitter.com) is relatively easy, but what is really important in making Twitter a worthwhile experience is the type of followers you get - and the type of "Twitterers" you yourself follow. In the 3rd quarter of 2008, I was resting solidly at 70 followers, and had grown to that level after several months (I joined in January 08).
I decided then that Twitter could really be a good tool for me, but I did realize that in order to beef up my presence, I would need to increase the number of people I was following, rather than keep my up-until-then more "passive" approach to attracting followers - listing my Twitter account link in my email signature. I had watched other users randomly follow, follow, follow, getting quickly to one of the Twitter follow limits of 2000. Sure, they did get some follow-backs, and had hundreds more followers than my 70, but to me, it seemed like a "quantity over quality" sort of following that would not add value in either direction.
So I set out to follow people in areas specifically of interest to me, so that when I read their Tweets in my friends' timeline, I would get information relevant to me, both professionally and personally. First, I made a list of keywords. Here are a few of the ones I listed for my professional interests: Creative, Web, Design, Entrepreneur, Social Media, Online, Blog, Blogging, PR, journalism...all in all, I listed about 25 or so. Personally, I am interested in progressive politics, wine, dogs, animal rights, and restaurants, so I made a list of words in those areas. Finally, I was interested to connect with "Tweeple" in certain geographic areas: New York City, San Francisco, South Florida (Miami, Miami Beach, Ft. Lauderdale), Toronto, Vancouver, Washington DC, etc. Onto the list they went. When my list was complete, I utilized two tools to connect with these types of folk: The Twitter search feature (http://search.twitter.com) and Twitter Grader (http://twitter.grader.com).
The Twitter Search tool is amazing; you can search by a single keyword, but what is really helpful is the Advanced Search option. I highly recommend it. I found the Twitter Grader helpful to keep an eye on my ranking compared to other users, but what was very helpful to me was the recommendations of people to follow at the bottom of my "stats." Some were not relevant, or didn't have a high enough ranking themselves, but with each "refresh" I found at the very least one person that would be a good "follow fit" for me.
In a few short months, I not only went from a solid plateau of 70 to almost 1000 followers (maybe it will hit the big milestone by the time this goes online!), but - even more important - the tweets in my friend feed are completely customized to my personal and professional interests. To me, that is the biggest part of what makes Twitter such an incredible tool.

Twitter Can Aid Your Job Hunt
chad22c wants job: az republic staff writer/blogger, advocate magazine editor, dm register, hollywood reporter, ap, u iowa journalism degree
This isn't gobbledygook.
It's A Twitter resume.
The free, social-networking site (www.twitter.com), founded in 2007, allows users to update their connections on what they're doing in 140 characters or less.
That includes a very, very succinct job hunt.
Hey, as the recession dramatically increases unemployment, it's good to use all channels to network. Think of Twitter as a kind of "living resume," suggests the blog at Liberate Media, an online PR firm based in London:
• You can show your background, experience, interests, contact information and link to a Web site showing your work.
• You can connect with specific people and companies.
• You can promote your Twitter profile on the Web through the Twitbacks application.
• You "could target specific brands and then use the @ functionality to wow the recipient with useful knowledge, insight and ideas, making you an ideal candidate for the next vacancy," the firm wrote.
BusinessWeek featured a hilarious fake Twitter resume from Apple CEO Steve Jobs: dude, I invented the friggin iPhone. Have you heard of it
As always, don't tweet anything you wouldn't want an employer or contact to see.
Twitter Feeds For TV Fans 30 We Love
I've compiled a list of thirty essential twitter feeds for fans of television. It's by no means a complete list, and I did leave off some obvious choices. I didn't include any feed that was network or TV show specific. Sites such as Zap2It.com or TV Week have enough people twittering that I had to leave some worthy folks off the list to keep it manageable. And while a number of actor and writers are twittering, I went with the ones that I happen to enjoy the most. But your mileage may vary on that one.
So here is my list of the 30 essential twitter feeds, in no particular order:

My Top Five Twitter Aps
For those of you new to the Twitter game, here are some of the tools I use and my thoughts on them (last summer we posted a more elaborate slideshow highlighting tools). I will say that some of these programs tend to take their sweet time about dishing out results, but a lot are still new, even in beta. I should note that I tend to avoid using tools that require me to hand over my Twitter password: After all, hackers now have their claws into Twitter. And I've yet to start using Twitter on a mobile device. (Watch a slideshow of 12 tips for safe social networking.)
Software Assurance Protection: Bridging the Gap in Application Security for Open Source: Download nowWithout further ado, the tools:
• TweetDeck: It's an Adobe Air application currently in public beta that runs on Mac, Windows and Linux systems. It's useful for divvying up the people you follow on Twitter into groups (though wish I could create even more than the eight groups I have: Network World, CIOs/network execs, vendors, analysts), making it easier to follow their Tweets vs. doing so within the basic Twitter interface. It's also easier to Tweet from there than the basic Twitter interface in that you can immediately shorten your URLs within TweetDeck. I've seen some users dismayed that when they go to close a group they've created that they've actually deleted. Confess to doing this once myself.
• Twellow: Unsatisfied with Twitter Search and even Advanced Search, I've taken to more often using this Twitter Yellow Pages to search not only by keyword in Tweets, but by keywords in Twitterers bios. Found Twellow helpful in pulling together this list of 12 CIOs who Twitter.
• Twitter Grader: Kind of fun just to see how you rank on Twitter and to learn who the Twitter rock stars are. I scored an 85 out of 100 last time I checked. A solid B-plus… Though I suspect there might be some grade inflation going on. The program gives out an awful lot of 100s. Also features TwitSnip, a bookmarklet for tweeting content from any Web page.
• TweetStats: Provides colorful graphs of how many tweets you write by month and time of day and interface. I've been averaging 2.1 a day. That doesn't seem too obnoxious, but I suspect I've got the potential to become insufferable. The site claims it has 50,000-plus users.
• Tweettag: Another search tool, which searches by Twitter tags, typically front-ended by a # symbol. One nice feature is that when you search on a tag you are presented with a tag cloud of related tags.
